Getting to Know Vincent
Vincent Van Gogh (1853 -1890) was born in Groot-Zundert, a small town in The Netherlands. Little about his origins and early life could have predicted Van Gogh’s dramatic story–both tragic and great. A failure at many careers, challenged by mental health issues, and perpetually misunderstood by society, Vincent nevertheless found his true calling in art during his late twenties, passionately giving all of himself to it. Though he painted for less than a decade, and sold only one or two paintings before his death at thirty-seven, this daring human being revolutionized modern art and gave the world some of the most important and beloved works of art of all time.
